SWaldo

Small Waldo

A small pan-tilt unit with a mechanically zooming camera, a small laser rangefinder and an onboard single-board computer (Raspberry Pi 5). Self-stabilized, under 5 lb (2.5 kg).

Pan covers 360 degrees and pitch 300 degrees. Suited to covert ISR, following drones, and mounting on platforms as small as Tunnel Rat.

Military applications

  • Autonomous scanning and tracking of targets of interest, with a TPU accelerating the object detector.
  • ISR, and call for fire thanks to the onboard laser rangefinder.
  • Autonomous tracking when coupled with Aimbot.
  • Optional small IR or thermal sensor.
  • Small enough to hide or mount almost anywhere, including tree branches.

Civilian applications

  • Surveillance and ISR.

MWaldo

Medium Waldo

A 10–14 lb (4.5–6.35 kg) pan-tilt unit, depending on motors. It accepts larger ISR packages, including the 10 lb IR / thermal / LRF camera from Dahlgren Warfare Center.

Powerful enough for ISR+, with a pitch-arm extension for a handgun or an M4/AR-15 in 5.56. It fits on Super Rat and is a natural module for Pivot.

Military applications

  • Autonomous scanning and tracking, with a TPU for the object detector.
  • ISR and call for fire via the laser rangefinder.
  • Autonomous tracking with Aimbot.
  • Large ISR package, such as the Dahlgren 10 lb IR / thermal / LRF system.
  • Autonomous engagement of small or drone targets with a bore-sighted 9 mm or 5.56 firearm.
  • Remote weapon station small enough to place almost anywhere, including pistols and M4/AR-15.

Civilian applications

  • Surveillance and ISR.
  • Small remote weapon system to put distance between law enforcement and an aggressor.

LWaldo

Large Waldo

A larger pan-tilt unit with 24 V, 15 A magnetic-encoder motors. Still under 18 lb (8 kg), it carries the heaviest cameras and weapons up to .308 (7.62×51 or 7.62×39).

Built for ISR+ while remaining light enough for Super Rat, and a natural module for Pivot.

Military applications

  • Autonomous scanning, tracking, ISR and call for fire, with Aimbot and a TPU object detector.
  • Large ISR packages, including the Dahlgren 10 lb IR / thermal / LRF system.
  • Bore-sighted 9 mm or 5.56 for small or drone targets, and .308 weapons. A 20 mm grenade launcher is a possible fit, not yet tested.
  • Remote weapon station for pistols, M4/AR-15 and AR-10, still small enough to conceal or mount on a branch.

Civilian applications

  • Surveillance and ISR.
  • Small remote weapon system to put distance between law enforcement and an aggressor.

Vision

Aimbot

Computer-vision software that classifies objects in the field of view, tracks selected objects, and searches for a specific class of targets.

It runs on a Raspberry Pi 4 or 5, usually with a TPU. It is typically installed on a tiny gimbal (three 30 g motors, platform under 250 g) that can be mounted on almost anything.

Aimbot is used on Valkyrie and Icarus, and on the Smart Mine UGV.

Military applications

  • Identification and tracking of targets of interest, and the ability to guide any UxV it is coupled to.
  • Installed on our pan-tilt units, it turns them into an autonomous remote weapon station or an ISR+ platform.
